How about Pigeon Forge Tennessee....there are TONS of things to do there. Its in the mountains and has plenty of cabins to rent (we rent one every summer). Its right next to Gatlinburg which has tons of stores, music, food, rides and things to do like white water rafting, sky lifts, Ripley's believe it or not, and so much more.....has everything. It is also right next to Dolly Wood which is a theme park. Just google Pigeon Forge Tennessee and it will tell you what you need to know. Good luck and have fun!

Two suggestions - New Hamshire. The mountains aren't as big but its close (so you won't spend days getting there) and there are lots of lakes, etc. You should also find lots of local activities in August, since many people have summer cabins/houses
If you want to travel farther, Lake Tahoe California is incredible. You get mountains and the lake. Again, there will be a lot of local activities in August you could go too and its easy to get a house. Ask for a house near Sunnyvale with lake access. This is a local rental agency that can help you. Ask for Julie.

Hello,
I’m in Maryland on the east coast US, and while our mountains are not nearly as majestic as in the west, there are lots of festivals and County fairs and activities which would involve way less travel time, and log cabins are not hard to find. The western mountains are fantastic, but if you are only going to be here for 10 days, I would really recommend checking out the east coast Appalachians’ from Tennessee to New York. Good luck!

I also suggest the Great Smokey Mountains, staying in or around Asheville NC or on the Tennessee side in the Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge area. It's beautiful & there are definitely tons of cabins to rent. Book early if you're thinking of fall, holiday or summer times because they go fast (plus they're a bit more expensive then, especially in the fall).

Hey, I would suggest Colorado or Nevada. In Nevada I'd try lake Tahoe, In Colorado any of the Ski resorts (they still are around in the summer with plenty to do - ever bike down a mountain?) In Colorado you have rodeos and such during the summer and in Nevada you have gambling. Have fun though, no matter where you go. Also, I am American I just happen to be living here in Cornwall.

I recommend Park City, Utah or any of the other ski resorts in and around Salt Lake City. They have tons of things to do in the off season, such as going up in a hot air balloon, an Alpine slide, rock climbing and mountain biking. There's also Sundance or Heber with lots of activities and gorgeous scenery. Good luck!

I suggest the Smokey Mountains/Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina/Eastern Tennessee. I used to live near Asheville, NC and there's PLENTY of entertainment in the area and TONS of choices to rent cabins.

Try this:
www.nps.gov/romo
www.rocky.mountain.national-park.com

Rocky Mountain National Park is awesome! You can stay in the little towns nearby, or inside the park. It is a spectacular place. You would be flying into Denver, Colorado, where you can head to many different local events, like fairs, flea markets, rodeos, and city things like malls, downtown clubs. The roads lead to many beautiful places both in the mountains and on the flat grasslands.

I definitely suggest the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. I looked it up to find a website, but there are soooo many. Just look them up and do a little research on what exactly you are looking for. There's plenty to do there and I just know you'd have lots of fun. Hope you have a fun and safe trip.
