Thanx. The only reason i din't work it out was because I read somewhere that told me: when you simplyfy them you don't add the numbers to the numbers with letters (x). Tats all!! Thanx. I guess I'm just tired

you could try expanding out the brackets giving
6x+2 +2x+10=8x+12.
add the x's and add the numbers
8x+12= 8x+12
What you are dealing with here is two sets of brackets that need to be simplified before you add them together. You multiply the 2 by the 3x and that gives you 6x you also need to multiply the 2 by the 1 in the first bracket.
The second bracket is dealt with in the same way 2 by the x gives 2x 2 by the 5 gives 10
add the x's together 6x plus 2x is 8x.
add the numbers together 2 plus 10 is 12.
To practice you can try the following one that I just made up
2(x+2) + 2(2x+6)=6x+16
expand the brackets one at a time and add the results to show that the left equals the right.
Hope it helps.

When you see a number outside of parenthesis, you distribute that to the items inside the parenthesis. This is called distribution. So, by distributing 2 to 3x and 1, you get 2 times 3x plus 2 times 1, which should be 6x + 2. THen you do the same for the 2(x+5), which should end up being 2x + 10. Since these to terms are to be added, 6x+2+2x+10 gives you 8x+12 by combining the x's and combining the pure numbers separately.

When you have brackets in algebra, you have to times whatever is on the outside by whatever is on the inside, then add them together.
So you would do:
(2 x 3x) + (2 x 1) + (2 x x) + (2 x 5)
The first bracket would equal 6x because if you have 3 lots of something and then you double it you will have 6 lots.
The second bracket would be 2.
The third bracket will be 2x because 2 times something is the same as having 2 lots of something.
The fourth bracket will be 10.
If you put this together you get:
6x + 2 + 2x + 10.
You can now add the xs and the numbers together to get:
8x + 12.

Well ami you first have to work out what 2(3x +1) is...you must multiply the first part, 3x+1 by 2,which is 6x+2....next multiply the second part, x+5 by 2,which is 2x+10....now add these together and you will get 6x+2x which =8x,then add up the numbers 2+10 which=12,so,the answer is 8x +12....u see? U have to multiply whats in the bracket by whats outside the bracket and add similar terms together.e.g. numbers or x's.

First part: 2 * (3x+1) = 2 * 3x + 2 * 1 = 6x + 2
Second part: 2 * (x+5) = 2 * x + 2 * 5 = 2x + 10
First part + Second Part:
6x + 2 + 2x + 10 = 6x + 2x + 2 + 10 = 8x + 12

2(3x+1)= 6x+2
2(x+5) =2x +10
the 2 outside the brackets mean that everything inside the brackets should be multiplied by 2
and if you add 6x+2 and 2x+10 the answer is 8x +12

Multiply what's outside each parentheses by whats inside it. Then just add it all up:
2(3x+1) = 6x + 2
2(x+5) = 2x + 10
6x + 2x = 8x
2 + 10 = 12
= 8x + 12

Are you finding for the value of X or just finding the final outcome.
Either way, it's like this:
2(3x + 1) + 2(x+ 5)
= (6x + 2 )+ (2x + 10)
= 8x + 12 --> if you are just finding the final outcome this is it
If youre finding for the value of X, this is it
from 8x + 12
8x = -12
x= -12/8
x= -6/4
x= -3/2 --> this is the value of X in its lowest term
ANSWER: -3/2
I hope this helps.

2 times 3x and 2 times 1 plus 2 times x and 2 times 5

6x plus 2x and 2 plus 10
=8x + 12

2(3x+1)+2(x+5)
= (6x + 2) + (2x + 10) (use the 2 to multiply in both brackets)
collecting like terms - x's and the "non-x's":
= 6x + 2 + 2x + 10
= 6x + 2x + 2 + 10
= 8x + 12
