It seems to me it's just automatic to turn on the noise when I start to drive. Does everydbody else do this or are there some intelligent people out there who aren't afraid of their own thoughts impinging on the silence?

It's a great time to think, plan for the day ahead, for the evening, or revisit a conversation with someone. It's mental time...there are those who do that such a thing. Sound waves don't leave much room for thought waves.

I hate having the radio or cd on to encroach on my thoughts...driving gives me time and space to be alone with my thoughts.

I do both depends on my mood. Music without words is calming and may prevent me from having road rage against others on the road lol.
