I want to bring a Ford Ka from Mexico to the United States but I am not sure what the legal procedures are. Is there a time frame the foreign vehicle can be in US soil? Is there environmental regulations?

If you are entering into California, it will have to pass emmisions tests and be "smogged", if you intend to register it in the state. If purchased new and brought into the state, there will be sales tax forthcoming from those who live in this state.

I know there are guidelines whether it is subject to import duties owed the federal government, depending on mileage and year model, new cars being hit the hardest. I don't know any precise figures.

I would think that there is some kind of temporary permits available for those here visiting.
