I just bought a truck, and it doesn't have a title. I will have to track down the last owner that had a title if it isn't old enough. How old does it have to be? Or how can I get a title for it?

Where are you from? All vehicles need a title. That shows ownership, no matter how old the vehicle is.

I don't know about other states... but in Texas... every vehicle has a title. Age doesn't matter.

In order to get your title you will need to know the last state it was registered in. Then you can request a 'title search' using the vehicles VIN. Once you get that, then you can work on contacting original owner or go through the process to have the title changed to your name based on the bill of sale.

One suggestion, if you go to your local DMV, you can get temporary paper plates that are good for 30 days for about $25. This will keep you from getting pulled over for no registration if your are driving the vehicle.

Hope this helps!

Yes you can track it down but if you have a bill of sale you can go to dmv and get a new title, I sold a truck once and someone came to the house over 10 years later saying I was the last registered owner. So I signed it.

you can get what they call a bond title, you have to get 3 estimates and you take these to the dmv and ask for an application for a bond title. what they will do is issue you a temporary title for 2 yrs after that if the original owner comes back for the truck . you will have to pay him the highest bid for the truck if he doesnt show then they will grant you a full title. just contact the dmv tell them what all you have to do to get a Bond Title.

If you have financing on your car, the title would still be with your lender. Your lender will give you the title when you are done paying your loan. If you already paid for the car in full and the truck still does not have a title, you may need to check your carfax.

Vehicles always need to have a title. You can apply for a lost title at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles

Depends on the state. In Louisiana, 7 years old, and you can apply for a new title. Call your local DMV, or check their website.

You need a title to buy license plates. Contact the Sherrif's department and have them do a search on the vin # to see if it's stolen. After that, you pay to have a new title made.

You do need a title to prove it's yours. Your best bet would be to contact your dmv and find out what kind of paperwork you need to submit in order to get the title in your name.

All vehicles used on the road must have a title. If you are only going to use it on your farm or property it does not need one.
