Are you thinking of a Stuffing Tomato? You can find seeds for different varieties in the seed catalogs, but they aren't very common in the grocery stores. Heirloom tomatos are often stuffed too and are often found at farmer's markets.
You might also be thinking of a Tomatillo (or Tomate), but the seeds aren't as large or tough as a pepper's seeds.

I think its a roma tomato. They dont taste quite like a regular tomato. They are good to use with salsa or other sauces.
