In New England: What museum is this?

This is driving me nuts. I remember in school we took a field trip to a HUGE museum somewhere relatively close to where I live (CT)..so I thought it might be in NY or MA. Anyway...I remember it had 5 stories ..each floor being a different time in history. I remember one floor had mummies or something egyptian. Does anyone know which museum i'm talking about? What's the name of it & where is it?! Any info would be much appreciated it, I want to visit it again!
