Very simple, we didn't evolve, God created us, and the apes

Well, this does seem to be a popular question. The only conclusion that seems reasonable would be the simplest.
The apes are simply a backup source. They will evolve again and repopulate the earth when humans destroy themselves.
Maybe this has worked before. Quite possibly in the past it was the apes that evolved from the humans. Maybe right now on the ape Internet (HooYa) one of them is asking " If we evolved from humans why are there still humans?"

That's like asking "If America was founded by Europeans, why are there still Europeans?"

Really. Think about it.

Just because *some* Europeans became Americans ... not *all* Europeans did so. Europe was, and is, still a perfectly viable place to live.

Similarly, even if "apes" was a species (it's not, it's a family of many species, including humans), and we evolved "from" them (we did not, we both evolved from the same ancestor) ... if *some* apes evolved into humans, this would not mean that *all* apes evolved into humans.

When you can understand this, then you will realize what a silly question it was, and you will never again embarass yourself by asking it again.

Actually, I can see why you might ask a question like this. This is one of the distortions that Creationist do to try to make Evolution sound weaker so common perceptions are often wrong.

Although chimpanzees are the closest living relative they are not much like us in terms of anatomy. Specifically they are adapted to knuckle walking where our ancestors would not have been. Their palms are too long to actually bring their thumb and forefinger together. We both branched off from the same ancestor at least 5 Million years ago. We have not evolved the same.

All whales, dolphins, and porpoises once had a common ancestor. Then baleen whales split from the group that includes toothed whales, dolphins, and porpoises. Then River Dolphins split off. The remaining group of Ocean Dolphins, Porpoises and toothed whales is still very diverse. It ranges all the way from small dolphins to sperm whales. One of this group probably ressembles the species after the first split.

In terms of our ancestors they are all gone. There are no Homo Erectus or Homo Habilis. Even close relatives like Homo Heidlebergenis and Neanderthalenis are gone.

Evolution doesn't mean that each branch necessarily continues to survive or doesn't survive. Either can happen. You can still find the small tortoise in south america that is the ancestor to all the Galopagos Tortoises.

this question has been asked at least a dozen times. we evolved from an apelike creature that split into 3 or 4 subgroups depending on where they lived. The apes and chimpanzees stayed in the trees, and developed long arms and strong chest and back muscles to enable them to move through the trees better. Man moved out to the savanna area, and developed long legs and an erect posture in order to be able to see out over tops of the grasses. This took thousands of years to differentiate, until we look like we do now.

The current ape lines branched off from the ones that evolved into us.

we DID NOT evolve from apes!! Why does noone ever take time to study the theory!?!?!

The idea is that we have a common ancestor way way back which branched off into apes and humanoids. Thse in turn, kept on evolving.

Juan Hombre for President! LOL

You don't even have to give me a penny. Think about your question for a moment; what you are asking, in effect, is "How could bread possibly be made of flour if there is still flour?"

All primates evolved from a common ancestor. If you can't grasp this simple concept, you should NEVER be allowed to operate a motor vehicle, you are too dumb...

Don't you people EVER get tired of asking this? It pops up here about once a week.

Brief answer: apes and humans are different branches of a very big tree.

Have you ever read Darwin, or ANYONE about this subject?

Go to the library. Check out a book. Read it. Come back, we'll talk. Good for you for wanting to learn.

We evolved from the same thing the apes did, we just did it differently.

You need to go right back to whoever suggested to you that this was a clever question and slap him or her across the face for making you look so foolish. This question simply reveals an ugly ignorance of evolution, and each and every person who still asks it after all of this time makes him or herself look like a complete idiot, led around by the nose by dishonest creationist organizations which only still exist because they take advantage of the astonishing ignorance and gullibility of the American public. If I ever posted anything as stupid as this question in a public forum I'd disconnect my computer from the internet and never let myself be seen in public again. The fact that there are tens or even hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. who think that this is a clever question makes me fear for our nation's future - there is no way that a modern civilization can persist when it is populated by people this ignorant and easily misled. This kind of gullibility is how Hitler came to power, and how Stalin came to power, and why we live in a land infested with psychics and infomercials and fast-food restaurants and televangelists and tv wrestling fans. If you really thought that was a clever question, the only way to save yourself from completely wasting your life is to drop everything right now - at this very moment - and start over again. Realize that your belief system is utterly disconnected from reality and that everything that you believe needs to be just tossed right into the trash bin. Seriously.
