There is only one 'Love'. People most often confuse the word 'love' for neediness, possessiveness, familiarity, bonding, co-dependency, dependency, 'better-half', dominance, submissiveness, conquering, etc. The best two friends, each self-actualized, relationship wise, can do is share in this one Love like strings on a violin that never touch but creates beautiful music together.

They both fulfil a human, God given need. Love, commitment and loyalty in an equal sharing relationship is the greatest gift.
Friendships are to be valued. It is good to have someone to share with, confide in and socialize with etc.
One cannot take the place of the other but the ideal is to be best friends with the one you are committed to.

There's different form of loves so it is still possible to love your friends. Conversly, a "soul mate" or whatever you want to call it is sometime your best friends. Swings and roundabouts, eh?
