You should avoid that, because that can cause you to drown (in the worst case). So before swimming, get enough rest, don't swim after you just ate, and eat healthily.

There are a few things you can do, first and most important is not to panic. If you feel you cannot go any further, go to your back and back float until you feel you can swim again. The other thing you can do is bring your knees up to your chest and just float, but I do suggest that you practice this technique in shallow water. That way you know how far to bring your knees up for your body shape, otherwise you may go under or turn over. If someone has a floatation device yell for help. And if you are in serious trouble in the water and someone comes to help you remember to roll to your back so they can drag you to the shore. Just do not panic this is the most important thing you can do for yourself and your rescuer. Hope this helps.

Stop filling your mind with things that will cause you to worry, which will cause you to tire easily. That is the reason for going to advanced lessons so that you instructor will give you practical lessons and not theory.

Float on your back untill you are rested.
If you want to keep moving, try sculling (short hand strokes by your side) or kicking or both.
Alternatively, try sidestroke. It is much les tiring than other strokes.
Either way it is much less tiring than doing freestyle, breaststroke, or butterfly.

take in a big breath and lay on your back...you only have to swim when you let out your breath then big breath again fast...regenerates energy instead of just saving it...I have epilepsy and I faint all the time for no reaon...I am the only 16 yr. old there with water wings in the shallow part...

If you lay back and just kick your feet slowly, you can float with very little effort for a very long time.
