Hi. I m a novice swimmer & have just learned basic swimming. My freestyle stroke is pretty smooth & I can breathe while swimming. I want to swim to the deep end of the pool but am really scared. Any help/ advice would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Before you swim ALL the way to the deep end of the pool from the shallow side, walk over to the deep end and get in, swimming around NEXT TO the edge until you get tired and get out.

When I learned how to swim (like 5yrsold), I learned how to do all the strokes first before because freestyle is tiring. I suggest learning how to do backstroke (so you can lay on your back for a rest) and BREASTSTROKE because it is less tiring then all of them.

I also agree with TESS's advice:
"doggy paddle or swim out to a place you can barely touch and practice treading water in that depth until your comfortable then go out deeper before ya know it you will be there!"

I'd rather wait a while until you can swim around 2 laps non-stop. Remember once you get there you won't be able to feel the ground or stop to breath no matter how tired you are. If you are going to go ahead with it then swim close to the side and if they allow floats swim with one. Usually pools will getting deeper and deeper near the end. try the middle of the pool and if you swim ok move closer to the deep end.
Good luck!

Well, if you're talking about lap lanes, you won't sink if you're swimming. If you're in the diving well (trying to float), then move your legs in a breastroke position, and your arms well.. just use them to move your body upward. It may get tiring after a while, but it keeps you afloat.
