Hi,if your acer leaves are looking as though they are drying out,its because they are getting burnt by the sun.If the plant is in a pot put it in the shade, that will help, keep it watered but dont soak it.

I take it this is a new plant

if it is then you have to give it plenty of water while the ground is as dry as it is and shelter from the wind it's probably just hanging in

the best time to plant shrubs and trees is the autumm

maybe it is dying...water and feed it...nothing else to do really. Its been so hot and dry that some plants/trees won't survive without a lot of TLC...
I should say I'll pray for your acer...but..tell you what... dig the bugger up and get a new one. Maybe its a wimp!

mine got burnt cause i had it in a pot on my patio next to a brick wall and where its been hot the brick holds the heat and my acer got it. so i moved it over by my wooden fence, cut it back and put some tomato feed in the saucer with the water and kept the water topped up and it has started growing again. good luck
