Yes you need a prescription for the morning after pill. If it is not over 72 hours, you can go to your OB/GYN & she will give you a prescription. If you have insurance, it might not cost as much.

Yes you need a prescription for the morning after pill. You can go to the health department and be seen in women's health and they can most likely prescribe it to you for low cost. It needs to be used 72 hours from the date of intercourse. Over the counter means it is sold on the regular shelves at the store, not in the actual pharmacy.

It's available in certain states under certain conditions without one.
at the link in the MSN article it has a US map and charts in DARK BROWN to indicate which states allow free access to the morning-after pill already
"Laws in nine states allow pharmacists to dispense Plan B without a doctor’s prescription under certain conditions."
But...
Actually that's the debate right now in the government with the FDA, from what I just read at MSN,whether it should be available without a prescription or not:
"Updated: 6:54 p.m. ET July 31, 2006
WASHINGTON - Women over 18 may soon be able to get the morning-after pill without a prescription. In a surprise decision Monday, health officials revived a long-stalled application to allow over-the-counter sales of the emergency contraceptive."

I don't know where you live, but in washington at planned parenthood, they give it to you for free, no exam needed. They also give you free birth control for a year with no exam. (you might want to look into that) see if you can find a planned parenthood near you and call them up to ask some questions.
