up to 2nd generation japanese americans were place in internment camps. the government deemed it necessary during the time of war.

Wikipedia has a great deal of info on the topic. Remember that the US had been attacked by the Japanese. There was great suspicion of Japanese Americans and their possible allegiances with their home country. There was even some evidence that Japanese spies were in the country. That said, you have some reading to do.
