Many take cricket as a boring sport, that is only played by old men. But if you play/have played it, what did you think?

Until my body gave up the ghost 10 years ago, I played for over 30 years, since I was 10. I joined my first men's team at 12.

I always thought I would die with my boots on but sadly that won't be the case. For all those years, my love for the game never dwindled, playing in all types of weather.

Boring? Yes, to those people that don't understand the rules or tactics. I often used to say that even though the scoreboard is not moving and maiden over after maiden over is being bowled, there is still a battle going on out in the middle. The battle between bat and ball; the bowler trying to outwit the batsman and the other way round.

Boring? Yes, sometimes if negative tactics are being employed but then again it is those same tactics that often produce results because a bored batsman will try and hit out when he shouldn't.

What must it have felt like to have watched or even been part of that magnificent world record partnership last week? I bet no-one was bored watching that, except maybe some South Africans.

But boring overall? NEVER.

Cricket is not a boring sport. If a person does not know all the things that are involved in cricket it will be boring sport. But for a person with knowledge of the game cricket is intresting. I love it

I wouldn't say so, although I have never played a four/five day match - only 50 overs per side games. To be honest the only time I really get bored is sat in the pavillion, waiting for my turn to bat. I guess fielding at third man all day might be pretty dull but for the most part I find cricket fun to play.

i have played cricket for 7 years and as always most people think its boring but hardly any of them have ever played it. Most definitely cricket has become more interesting with the ashes and twenty20 being introduced and now it just seems that the game has a much faster pace compared to before.

Don't be so stupid! Cricket is a fantastic action packed game that is both mentally and physically extremely demanding. No other game in the world requires such a high level of concentration over such a long period of time, truely testing your mind (other than chess!) at the same time being physically demanding and exhausting. Requiring explosive force, expert timing and reflexes, split second decision making. On top of that your mind has to be constantly alert for tactical fielding and bowling changes, subtle differences in the bowlers strategy and alert to the need to maintain runrates etc.
It is an incredibly rewarding game to play. Anyone who finds it boring does so because they don't have the capapcity for playing a game as mentally demanding as chess, and as physically demanding as long-distance running, or baseball etc...

cricket may seem like it is a boring game to play but my husband doesn't think it is and all of our friends don't think it is. my brothers in Australia play/have played for Australia. i used to play for the Australian Women's team before i was married to the captain of the England Team that won the Ashes and not for one second i found it boring. it is just a matter of opinion. my family came from a cricketing background so in honour of them i cannot call the game boring

many aspects of it to play take a great deal of concentration that is hard to grasp when watching.
with the ball spinning either way from the bowlers hand or travelling at over 90mph the skills to do this are not easy and neither is hitting the ball.
In the field you have got to be ready to take a catch or chase a ball to stop runs being scored, which with a ball already travelling being hit hard you needd you r wits about you.
Its really just another of those marmite things.....
