For a family of four, including admission, parking and snacks:
for a baseball, football or basketball game: a couple hundred dollars easy;
for a movie: about $75
for a concert: about $100 each person (for a cheap show)
For a family of four to actually participate; mini golf, pizza party, waterpark, amusement park, etc. anywhere from $100 to $1000. So, where do you draw the line?

Yes, I blame the movie stars that want 20million to star in a movie; of the baseball or basketball player that wants 111million for 5 year contract. Pop singers wanting $150-$200 per ticket. The sports clubs, promoters and film studios have to recoup these costs somewhere. Revenue through merchandising is one way, costs of tickets is another.

Eventually the cost of the ticket will outstrip the value of the product (especially when ESPN show live sport and movies are on DVD anytime soon)

Sadly, while we live in a world that adores and worships celebrities these prices will continue to go up. When we say enough is enough a balance will have to be struck.

We have a movie house in London that sells all tickets for about $5 per person. The movie is about 3 months old or older and the place is packed about 250-300 people per showing (they show 4 different movies per day). Pirates of the Caribbean, for example, at full cost, maybe 40-50 per showing at $25-30 per head. Its not rocket science!

i used to see a movie because I liked movies, now I have to select much more carefully. Its a sad way to be.

Freepraise is spot on, support local free and low cost events; is the way to go.

I don't think paychecks are going up as fast as the prices of sports and entertainment costs are.
When some over blown movie star or Sports figure is making millions of dollars a year, then something has to give.
As soon as people begin to stay away in droves, then the costs will drop.
But until that day comes, they will charge what the market will stand.
It's starting in Hollywood now, with cut backs, on employees, and what they will be paying the Stars, it just happened to Tom Cruise and his company, today. So maybe we are seeing a start of the end.
I wouldn't hold my breath though for prices to fall anytime soon, it will take a while, before the raw numbers come in, and they decide to make the changes to attract more people.
The Theme Park rides, do that every year, when attendance is down, so hopefully, others will follow suit.

Wow that is a tough question. Everything is so UNaffordable for the average working family. A night at the movies for 4 in my area (without popcorn) is $48.00! Add popcorn and drinks for everyone and that is anther $5-8 per person.

Where do we draw the line? I don't know how we can get the overpriced venues to come down, in the alternative we shoudl support the things that are free and low cost, i.e. the local park district. We have to support the things that offer services and activities for all regardless if their income can afford it.

BQ3: i don't watch indie circuits. till its the CZW idiots hurting themselves.

I can't pay those prices for a family of 3, especially good seats. The problem is that if they lowered the price people would be buying tickets the second they came out and people without a computer would never get to go.

They are getting pretty close... but, as long as they are filling the seats they aren't going to lower their prices...
