I'm just wondering why someone that goes to jail get there college education paid for,They get huge meals, I even heard of a criminal sewing the jail because he didn't get gravy on his mashed potatos. Am I the only one who finds this a little odd. If your answer is everyone has rights, I would tell you they lost there rights when they chose to break the law,and please no more jokes about grammer. Its getting old and this is the internet anyway. Your not suppose to be completly gramatical anyway.

Some dogooder thinks that if you deprive the criminals then when they get out of prison/jail they will just be more angry and commit more crimes out of anger. So their solution was to coddle them, and help them improve their lives so that when they got out of prison, they wouldn't commit more crimes.

We all know how good that worked!

Now with their college educations they are just committing different crimes, and doing it better so it is harder to catch them at it.

My opinion: The coddle them approach isn't working-try going back to hard labor and chain gangs, a reason to stay out of prison, not a extended vacation.

As for the college degrees, it's been proven that prisoners who are rehabilitated in some way (educated, taught valuable job skills, anger management techniques, etc) are less likely to reoffend after exiting the prison system. That's better for society - I would rather pay the money to give people a leg up, which helps reduce crime, than keep people in cell from which they emerge more criminally knowledge than when they came in.

a few good points there. i think the basis of the problem is that prisoners abuse the protection of their rights - that protection is in place to ensure that they are no worse off (in terms of torture, food etc.) than they were outside. however the protection loses a little relevance once they are being treated better than normally. also, since there is a (relatively) small population to be looked after in each prison, each prisoner's needs/wants can be attended to, which isn't the case in the outside world. people outside are meant to be at least as well off as prisoners, but if they're not they often have no way to make it known and get assistance.

the reason that guy sued for the gravy was because he knew he could probably win

and yes, this is the internet but PLEASE make a little effort to be grammatically correct. it helps the rest of us read your question that little bit easier :)

Don't you know it's because criminals are the victims those poor people having to mug and rob to make a living.

I think the victims should be sent to prison and the assailants give trauma counselling.

When we quit calling it "Criminal Justice" and start calling it "Victims' Justice", then and only then will our "justice" system not be so perverted. You have wonderful observational skills. Don't doubt what you see. IT IS that fuckkkkked up!! Get the democrats out of every public office you can, and then and only then will we have true "Victims' Justice" and a good justice system. God Bless you.

That is why I love our Sheriff, his name is Joe Orpile( don't know how to spell last name, but sounds like). He made the inmates put up tents on the grounds of the prison, some live in them, they all eat green Bologna sandwiches. No computers, no t.v.s. In the summer when it is real hot and Animal Shelter has too many dogs he kicks the inmates out of their cells and puts dogs in. The inmates have to care for the dogs. This man is great for our State. We live in Phoenix Arizona.

I always thought that they should be locked up and get only bread and water to eat. It's not fair that people who have done nothing wrong are starving on the streets, whereas people who broke the law are livin it up in jail.

your right its ridiculus what they get to do in there. They are doing the same things we are wich shouldnt be happening! Its like they are getting a second chance IN JAIL, I'm NOT saying they shouldnt get a second chance!! Its just that they should get their chance AFTER they leave jail. I'ts like there living in the outside world, they are supposed to be learning a lesson not their abc's! Its almost like military school wich in my opinion is crazy!

amen.
i think that sexual predators should get more punishments too.
remeber when that judge didn't want to put a sexual predator in jail cuz he was 5 2" and he though the other inmates would beat him up, even though he deserved it? that really pissed me off.
