Palestine was the name given to the area by Rome hundreds of years before Mohamed was even born. At the time, most of the Palestinians were Jewish. Including Jesus. Don't yell and scream, just think about it.

The Arabs now called "Palestinians" only took on this identity in the 1960's as a tactic in the effort to destroy Jewish independence in Israel. Hard to believe?

In their own words...

"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism.

For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan."

i can't figure it out either -- there has never been a country or nation called palestine. if you call people by their region, i'd be a "north american" and every israeli who lived in the area before 1948, and all their kids would be palestinians also.

there never was any people called "palestinians" until 1968 when the 600,000+ SELF-DEPLACED muslim residents of the region couldn't get back in because the ORDERED jihad and subsequent annihilation of the jewish residents didn't occur as promised by their "spiritual leaders". the jews kicked their asses in the resulting conflict. it was after THAT that they then started calling themselves "Palestinians".
