(1) Go in for organic fertilisers- organic food. The inorganic chemicals get into are body through the food we take and get biologically magnified in out system. They are not sent out of the system. This can be detrimental to our health.

(3) Say no to plastics are they are biological non degradable.
(4) Donot emit harmful substances into the environment. They can give rise to acid rain
(5)donot go in for genetically engineered plants.
(6)Do not use chemical pesticides as they kill some of the natural enemies thereby affecting ecology.
(7) Do not use fossil fuel excessively
(8) The vehicles should not emit harmful substances into the environment
(9) Grow more plants and trees - this would reduce global warming

Reduce the sources and severity of pollution. For example, pesticides and herbicides are considered pollutants, so buy organic foods that claim to not use them. (Hopefully there is truth in advertising... especially since most of the major organic companies were bought out by the major food corporations several years ago. See my sources below.) The use of fossil fuels creates pollution, so minimize energy consumption in every aspect of your life, as well as try to switch to "greener" sources of energy. Western civilization creates enormous amount of garbage every day, so minimize your consumption and learn to recycle effectively.

Always look at the source of the pollution, then look more closely at all of its root causes. Much of it boils down to the convenience and materialistic thinking that dominates our culture. Therefore, work to change your culture as well.

Efforts should also be made to clean up the pollution already released into the environment.

Recycle the waste in your own yard. For a larger waste it is for the municipality to recycle. And in the same way when the area increases the responsibility shifts to the higher levels. With such self imposed restrictions the level of pollution will go down. So, try to live with your waste or to recycle it.
