No laws on this...unless you were promised in writing and had some kind of contractual arrangement.

Your company most likely has a policy or program for employee referrals, in writing. See if you can put your hands on that. If not, then you could just talk to your boss and ask what the policy or program is, and inquire to why you haven't been paid.

Did you get this promise in writing?

If not, you are kind of stuck with the honor system, and when the person you are dealing with has no honor ... well ... good luck.

If I were you, I would send an e-mail saying something polite but firm asking what date you can expect the bonus.

You don't need a law. Handle this yourself. The legal system is overburdened with disagreements. You need to confront your boss--appropriately. If you cannot work out an amicable resolution, you need to start looking for another job. When you find another job, you can get this person out of your professional life and the boss can be saddled with the loss of an employee.

Is it in writing? The company I work for has a written policy regarding this. If its in writing, show him the policy and ask why it has not been paid. There may be some reason your not aware of. Our new hires have to pass several criteria before any referal bonus is paid.
