How about Arabian Nights? You know, the whole flying carpet bit. A big mystical crystal ball or something. Or Egypt, with hieroglyphics every where, mummy cases.
If you are looking for time periods, try medieval or 80's. They haven't been done as much as 50's or Disco.
The Masquerade is a classic fun one that someone else suggested. Great if you've got some Hallowe'en or Phantom of the Opera stuff available.
But the trick is to use what you've got. Check the A/V and drama departments for anything you could use. Las Vegas stuff still lying around? See what you could use there. That could really work for the Red Carpet themes others have suggested, too!

Red Carpet/ Black Tie/ Hollywood Glam. Similar to the Emmy's or Oscars.

Masque or Mascarade. Make the ticket a plastic mask, that way everyone has a mask and, offer a mask competition so if people want to make their own to match their outfit they can receive some recognition.
