I have had a plastic spoon melt as well. These were sitting between the 2 back burners but only the oven was on at 375 degrees.

you should not have combustable materials on the stove to start with. Is the temperature celcuis or farenhieght. The oven will heat up the whole stove as the stove is made of steel and steel conduct heat. Have the stove checked out by a service agent if in doubt and remove combustables from on and around the stove

Probably not if the oven bakes well and times in recipes work well. Don't know how far "on top" is from the burners or oven outlet but if baking is good and there are no flames where there shouldn't be flames, you should have no problems other than keeping wood and plastic well away from heat sources.
