desktop,xp media center edition,everything was fine what happened?and why?

all software even the software that came with the system,installation disks,games,movies,etc.

Been there / done that! Does it happen with every disk?
Have you tried other disks?
That happend to me and it turned out to be a corrupt disk that the puter couldn't read... so it kept trying. Using another disk solved MY problem.
I hope it is as simple as that for you.
The other answers... it doesn't hurt to clean up the puter but this is not the problem.

u have to clean your puter ...disk clean up...defrag....updates...take out your cookies.....update java and get as much memory back as u can ....
