The best gifts I got at my baby shower where things need when my baby was older.
The months go by fast and you don't think to buy things the baby will need around 6-12 months.

The best gift was someone took a small wicker basket and put a receiving blanket at the bottom and filled it with some bowls, cups, bibs for older kids, toddler spoons, small toys for 6-12 months and a couple of outfits.

I now do the same thing and it's always much appreciated

Diapers are a godsend... You probably spend more money on these than anything else. Find out what brand the person intends to use, buy a couple packs in different sizes ('cause you're never sure exactly how big the baby will be, and they can always grow into them). Wrap them in baby receiving blankets with a baby safety pin. Another great gift (if you are up for it) is gift certificates for babysitting. Mom and Dad can always use a night out for themselves!

A basket filled with baby soaps, lotions, shampoo, powder, washcloths, and towels. Or a basket with receiving blankets, baby tylenol, nail clippers, thermometer, medicine dropper, gas drops. These were all things that I didn't get as shower gifts. Another great gift to give are gift cards to stores like Wal Mart or Target. If you are looking for more keepsake type gifts a baby book or a handprinting kit are great ideas.

The gifts I most appreciated at my baby shower were the truly useful ones...a case of diapers and a large bottle of Dreft (baby laundry detergent). EVERYONE gave me onesies. I had so many onesies I didn't know what to do with them! Especially since my first son was born in the winter. :)

If you're unsure what to buy, find where the person registered and get a gift card. If she doesn't get everything on her registry, she can put her giftcard toward something she didn't get. (This is especially helpful if nobody buys her stroller or carseat [if she registered for them]).

gift cards are great, but if you're looking to get a nice gift, I would suggest a baby swing, or something along those lines. Also, diapers!!! But remember, they grow quick, so maybe get diapers for a couple months down the road.

I think it would cool to make a gift basket and add stuff to it. You can get a basket from the Dollar Store, then go to Wal-mart or Target to buy stuff like: Avent Natural Bottles, Diapers, Onesies, Pacifiers, Infant Tylenol, Aveeno Baby Wash, etc.

Diapers, diaper wipes, no count the dimensions, they may well be exchanged at Wal-Mart for the dazzling length. Have absolutely everyone attempt to wager the names they have picked out for the two genders. Get some rest room paper, or string, something hassle-free to degree with, and function absolutely everyone tear off or decrease off how massive around they think of the mothers abdomen is. purchase a team of infant stuff, little issues, keep the reciept, have absolutely everyone type there papers and wager what each and each merchandise cost. Plus the little belongings you got can acquire to the mother as a recent. additionally, no longer a game, only an theory that somebody did at there bathe. supply absolutely everyone an envelope, have them handle it with there handle. Then have them supply them back to you while they are accomplished. this manner once you deliver out thank you notes, you have already got absolutely everyone's envelope addressed of who became there. As absolutely everyone includes the party, hand them a secure practices pin to clip on there outfits, whoever crosses there legs, or ft, the guy who see's them try this, gets to take there safety pin away. Make up a secret observe, and the guy who says it wins. infant bottle ingesting contest. infant diapering contest. Identifiying infant products, and there dazzling names. you will no longer have self belief how a lot of human beings won't get them. Like alot of human beings call the asperator, the nostril sucky element. purchase infant nutrition, have absolutely everyone type a bite of paper, and then have them each and each pattern the infant nutrition, and wager what it is, purchase writing it down. have exciting....and robust success

Something practical would be good. Your friends are about to be inundated with 'stuff'. Good quality baby clothes in sizes 6mths-12 mths are great. Make sure they'll be appropriate for the season. Soft fabrics and front popper buttons to make changing easier and you have a winner.
Or maybe a voucher for a spa treatment for the mother-to-be? She could use it after the baby's born and feel refreshed. A really good moisturiser might be welcome too.
My advice, is whatever you choose, make it something useful and beautiful.

Diapers are always appreciated. But the greatest gift is one where the mother is not overlooked. So giving her gifts FOR the baby is great, how about something for the MOM, massage or some king of pampering gift...Good Luck
