I had the same thing, real bad. There were knots between my 2 shoulder blades and it affected my work.
So I went to a massage therapist and she told me that I was dehydrated and salt was depositing in my muscles. I thought, "yeah, sure". After she finished the massage, she had me drink 2 cups of water. Then she told me to drink 8 cups a day.
The very next day, the pain was gone. Then I slowed down my water intake, and the pain returned. So I drank water and the pain subsided after an hour.
Today I drink about 1-2 liters of water a day even though I work in an office. I keep a 1.5 liter of bottled water sitting on my desk.

pain between the shoulder blades, especially for women, could indicate more than stress, it could indicate the beginnings of a heart attack. if the pain continues, you need to see a doctor. women experience pain between the shoulder blades, jaw pain, headaches, and nausea with heart attacks where as men have a crushing sensation and arm pain, etc. be on the safe side and get a physical. it could just be stress, but better to be safe than sorry.

Symptoms of Back Care
Pain and spasm of muscles in the lower back is the hallmark of back pain. This can occur after standing, stooping, bending, lifting, or after sitting in a chair for too long a time. Examination will often reveal point tenderness, but not always. Occasionally, pain is diffusely localized over the entire lower back.
Back pain is usually referred to as acute if it has been present for less than a month and chronic if it lasts for longer than a month. Young people are more likely to have brief acute episodes of back pain and chronic pain is more characteristic of older people.
Back pain occurs equally often in men and women.

Do you get lost when on the computer? Do you say I'll just go online for 1/2 hour, then discover it's 3 hours later? If so, you are asking for a killing backache and shoulder ache. They tell us to get up for 5 minutes every hour. I have to set the stove timer to force myself to get up. First, get a good chair or a lumbar pillow. Second, for relief, lay flat on the floor (on an exercise mat if you have one), bring the heels of your feet up toward your rear, and relax for 15 minutes. My shoulders were killing me. I got something called a "theraband" from a physical therapist. It is like a giant rubber band. Take a deep breath in, stretch your arms out in front and exhale. As you pull the band backwards, inhale deeply. You may want to do this 20 times, a couple times a day if you sit here as long as I do. It helps me a lot because I tend to tighten up when I "get lost."

There are a number of causes for back pain - high and lower. The reason why I have back pain is because of my mattress - it is brand new and full of lumps. The get rid of the pain I take long extremely hot showers or apply a heat pad.

The average mattress only provides proper support for about 7 years. If you have pets you allow on the bed that number goes down. It's most likely a postural problem causing muscle spasms but it's always best to see your doctor to let him know.
