I decided to join the army after I broke up with my long term boyfriend in March. I have passed all the tests, and am waiting for my offer, which will be ready for me to sign in less than two weeks. In April, I found a good job as a sales assistant at a new homes salkes office. It's 25-35 hours a week at $12/hour. So I make between $550-$650 every two weeks. The army is going to pay me a little more, and to go to school for the first year, too. I have to get though 2 months of Basic Training and 2 months of Soldier Qualification before I start learning my chosen trade, which is like a computer/communications engineering technician. Thing is, I am really good at my sales job, too. I've been here 4 months now. I'm not sure I want to leave. This is one of the best jobs I've ever had. What if I don't get though Basic Training and I can't get my job back? I'm confused. Any ideas or advice?

I should add that I am Canadian, and will be joining the Canadian Military. I welcome answers from any country. Thanks!

I would be just fine in the army. I am strong and fit. I don't doubt that I CAN do it. I know I can. Will I like it? I know there's lots of girls in the army. They seem fine...

The greatest regret In my life is not joining the service . at 18 I too signed up and was waiting for the physical which I would easily passed and I was talked out of it by my friends. I look back now at the many advantages offered by the military , education. training, self discipline travel, team work , the list goes on and on . the sales Jobs are out there always have been and always will. I happened to go into sales my self and make great money and have a very comfortable life style. However i honestly believe my life would have been richer not in money sense as much as in fulfillment had I joined the service .
good luck on your decision.

The way the world is right now with all the wars and everything going on I would be absolutely without a doubt sure about the army before I got into it because you can't just quit if you become unhappy with it...sounds like you are having some doubts about the army...If I were you I would keep your current job :)

You are less than 25 I'd imagine. I was going to join several times
but I had money set aside for college from a nasty divorce between my parents. So I didn't plus I was scared to.Let tell you, my brother joined and thats how he payed for college and he made a lot of real friends and experienced being something bigger than himself. I'd say do it but make sure you get trained in something that will be non combat zone. I see you are Canadian,
I doubt you would go to IRAQ.

My mother talked me out of the military. Now I have four kids never married buried in debt don't listen to the ones who are talking you out if it one it's more money and an education two never live your life with regret I've regretted not joining ever since. And don't be afraid to ask your recruitment officer what is the least likely job to get sent overseas either it doesn't hurt to ask and plan smart.

Well, I don't know if they have it in Canada, but if you were in the US, I would suggest doing Army Reserves. Here they let you train one weekend a month (after you finish basic training) but you can still work at your other job. My friend does this and works part time selling cell phone plans. He likes it.

Joining the ARMY while still an honorable thing, is not what it used to be.... The politicians missuse the armed forces, send kids to die for their own personal gain. I wanted to join it because I wanted to help people... but this war turn me off so much, that I am joining the Fire Dept instead

Air Force is the best for women. Army doesn't have all those special immenities the Air Force has. Plus, go out and see the world.

Joining would be your best bet the military is fun and exiting . Anyone who tells you not to doesnt have the balls to doit themselves and doesnt deserve the freedom allotted to them by the men and women that do serve.

Any job is better than being sent to die for Bush's little grudge.
