Pascal in fact backed away from rational thought because he believed that empiricism was unequal to the task of discerning Deeper Truth.

Many times we make decisions, we make choices, we take sides, just because. We arrive at decisions and conclusions that we think are very profound - when in reality we have decided just because. Then having made up our minds, we come up with all kinds of profound reasons to justify the decisions that our hearts have already decided. I think one of the ways Pascal can be interpreted is to say, we arrive at some of the deep, soul-changing decisions in our lives on the basis of what goes on in our hearts.

I guess the answer to that should be looked for in another book - try "The Alchemist" by Paolo Cohelo. The general meaning is that everyone carries their own reason and their own truth inside, in their hearts, which can be definitely quite different from a "mind's" reason which is more superficial in a way comparing to "heart's" reason. Well, "Alchemist" will explain it better.

Pascal is saying that love, to put it bluntly, is irrational- in a good way. Things like love and lust are not determined by logic- they're determined by emotion, and no emotion never slotted itself neatly into category, did it? Love cannot be scientifically observed are classified.

The beat of heart is unique and it can only be known by the other heart for whom this beat is there. There is a tuning of two beats. One heart knows the beat of other heart. It can be understood and felt not explained in words.

That's why we fall in love with somebody who we never thought we were going to be in love.

Sometimes we do things without thinking the risks.
