Talking to them may not be beneficial to them but it can be of great benefit to you. It's like talking to a psychologist only you get no feed back but you are allowed to feel, think and say what you want and in what tone you want. Pets make wonderful companions because they love you unconditionally! NO matter what you do, who you are, or where you are going in life - they love you just because you are you! kind of like parents!

Talking yes, but a conversation, probably not! Talking to them is a way of expression of your mood and energy to them. They feel the vibe and energy flow through your body and voice. That's how they interact and show their attitude and behavior with you. So talking to them and showing them a good playful time can help your animal (pet) be a smart, and obedient animal. Conversation, isn't understandable to them without expression and energy flow through your body, and depending on your mood, believe it or not, your pet, or animals can sense the way you are feeling. So hopefully this answers your question.

Having a conversation with your dog would help him to know your moods and will bond you and him together. That's how he would get to know his master, and feels a part of your existence.
I heard some where that dogs can understand about 120 words, these would be command words or course. So talk to your dog but don't expect that he will talk back.

Yes I do find that it helps.
While taking your doggy would look at U with a pair of hopeful eyes and licking U.
He might not understand what U are telling but at least he is tryiing to and giving U the attention!

Well, I don't think it's an entirely enriching intellectual experience for them, but it's another way to show your affection for them, which is wonderful.

i don't think so. God made animals at a different level than humans. i don't think they can understand you. but playing with them and showing them lots of love might help.

I think it makes them smarter. They get to understand the English language (or whatever language you speak) better and get to know your moods better.

Absolutely. I even talk to my fish. It makes animals more responsive to your voice. Animals are not completely stupid, they do understand what you are saying. Even rats get it!!
