I don't believe that WW III is around the corner. I saw today that Cuba found a lot of oil, perhaps that will push Bush into letting go of the sanctions against the Cubans. Or perhaps that will force the almighty USA president into another war for oil. Seriously though I believe that the next war that will involve the world superpowers will be fought over one of the world's most natural resources - WATER!! Yes it's hard to believe that mankind will devolve to killing over something that is so readily available and covers a good portion of our world, but it is true. Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, the fighting there will look like children's play once people start fighting over water.

If the world only included the middle east then everybody who is asking this question would be absolutely correct.
However, all this world war talk ignores the fact that this "war" does not directly involve Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Australia. That's a pretty darn good chunk of the world missing from this world war, am I correct?
The only two "world wars" involved most of Europe, Russia, Japan, China, southeast Asia, parts of Africa and assorted places throughout the middle east and the Indian subcontinent; Australia and New Zealand sent troops and Australia itself was near the hostilities in WWII.
The current situation involves the middle east countries of Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Iraq and Iran; Afghanistan and Pakistan; North Korea; with the various European powers, Russia and the US (i.e., the major players in the two world wars) refereeing to various extents. This is hardly a world war.
I heard two interesting comments on this "world war" talk. First, if this were truly a world war we'd probably all be dead; nuclear weapons would certainly be involved and the people using them -- i.e., terrorists, at least at first -- would presumably want all of us (including themselves) blown straight to heaven or hell. Second, in 1950 at the time the Korean War started, a majority of people in this country thought it was the start of world war 3 -- and that conflict really left the Korean peninsula!

Probably not. Even if war erupts between Israel, Syria and Iran, Israel should be able to defeat Syria and Iran with conventional weapons. Such a victory with a subsequent treaty should be able to contain the war.

If you would think about what you are saying you should be able to answer this yourself! WORLD war does not mean Israel against the rest of the middle east. If that was considered a world war, we would already be in the double digits considering how many little wars go on.

It's really funny because when I was in junior high, in the late 1980s, a friend of mine told me that world war three would start in our lifetime. He said there would be three major signs to watch for. 1) our money would change. 2) we would see men in blue hats 3) the middle east would be war torn.
1. American currency has been changing for several years now. Also, we now have the Euro.
2. The U.N. inspectors that went in to check out Saddam Hussein's supposed arsenal all wore blue hats.
3. That's self explainitory.
Have a nice day.

I can only hope Iran has the bolas to try it.
I can only hope Syria has the bolas to try it.
May the leaders of Syria and Iran swim in pig fat for eternity.
