Liberal is a misnomer... There's nothing "Liberal" about them really, other than the fact they like to be liberal with other people's money.

Which states are "Nanny States"? Which ones are revoking the most rights of their citizens, and taxing the crap outta people for everything under the sun? LIBERAL STATES!

It's like calling Hitler a peacenik.

As a Democrat I do not mind being called Liberal, I am also Christian, Pro Choice, I think the Liberty's of the USA Citizens have for the past two Presidential terms, been constantly shaved away from Phone taps, to a unlawful War. I think Republicans have been a little to liberal at using their power over the World and America., And I would vote for a Sidewinder before I would help vote in a Republican. Why you call us liberal is like the Pot calling the Kettle Black.

2.

2. Generous in amount; ample: a liberal serving of potatoes.
3. Not strict or literal; loose or approximate: a liberal translation.
4. Of, relating to, or based on the traditional arts and sciences of a college or university curriculum: a liberal education.
5.
1. Archaic Permissible or appropriate for a person of free birth; befitting a lady or gentleman.
2. Obsolete Morally unrestrained; licentious.

NOUN:

1. A person with liberal ideas or opinions.
2. Liberal A member of a Liberal political party.

Aside from its obsolete usage, it seems to a pretty positive thing to be. Like most political definitions, though, liberalism can mean a lot of different things. Generally it is the view which has been passed down from the enlightenment, emphasizing reason, science, and human rights over traditional authoritarian and religious approaches to understanding the world. I certainly think that this philosophy has problems, but it is still preferable to conservativism, especially neo-conservativism.

Liberal is a good thing, it means tolerant and progressive and forward looking. I am proud to be a liberal, but I do give big points to conservatives for making liberal into a dirty word. So people love liberal policies but you can't call them liberal. People like social security, medicare, student loans, the national highway system, public colleges and universities, public beaches and public parks and food inspection and drug inspection and environmental protection...all LIBERAL IDEAS. Whats the conservative alternative? See "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair: everything for the obscenely rich, screw everybody else.

I nearly bust a gut when I hear liberals try to hide behind the moniker "progressive".
"Progressive"???? If "progressive" means turning BACK the clock on a couple of centuries of economic development and prosperity (IN SPITE of what certain liberals have tried to do because of the fallacy of "global warming" and other initiatives) then we all should be scared. Communist China is more "progressive" than the liberals in our country.
Let's call a spade a spade, shall we? They're NOT "progressive" as that name suggests progress. They are liberal...as in loose and often slimy. (Ever notice how lotions are applied "liberally"???)

BUSH has done a tremendous job in this area and most of them have followed his lead blindly .
STUBBORN is the word when dealing with some conservatives and a blind loyalty to all things evil .
NOT one of them wants to feed the people of this nation .IF you do not earn it then you do not get it .
THIS is conservatism at its best .
Regulate the amount of meals and money to children as long as no man is in the home . this creates a child with no morality ready to make it on his own with no regard for his fellow man .
CONSERVATIVES came from broken and disfunctional families and would turn on there own .TOUGH love is the answer for all the problems of the world .TOUGH love is just another way to turn your back on the responcibility all people have to look out after one another .INSTEAD every conservative family has one or more members who are less then socialy acceptable .SHUNNED by there own families turn tto crime and a life in prison when caught .
BUT that is not the conservatives fault .
HE was raised that way by society .
YOU must follow the rules to have anything .
DO not deviate from the pack or be lost forever .
these poor lonely conservatives go through several marriages and are never happy except at the bank where the tellers and people there treat them like GODS .
ANY conservative that quits his job as a defense worker and gives up that 200,000 dollar a year job to go find himself at 45 is in a mid life crisis .
IF we could only get to them sooner they could be saved with some liberalism and love .

Well, your first answerer is obviously EXACTLY what you are talking about.

Liberalism has many MANY corruptions. There are many of us on The Left who would like it to die a quick death, so PLEASE, keep pounding on it.

Not really an answer, but it wasn't really a question.
