Armstrong's first steps off the LM ladder and onto the surface of the moon were recorded by onboard TV camera and beamed back for the world to see.

The later images seen from distance were of Aldrin and were taken by Armstong who was obviously already on the surface.

Interestingly enough there were no photographs taken of Armstong on the moon - all the images are of Aldrin ( litte consolation I'm sure !!!) This was due to the arguments and resultant feud over who would be first to set foot.

Originally the mission schedule called for the Aldrin ( the LM Pilot ) to go out first but this would have meant Armstrong having to shift out of Aldrins way, which have been practically impossible with them both suited up. Allegedly Armstrong took a command decision and as a result (after the mission of course) him and Aldrin have never been on speaking terms !!

I've read a book about the apollo landings and one of Nei'ls first jobs when he emerged from the LM (Lunar Module) was to connect the external tv camera. The shot you saw of him descending was not the first actual shot of the moon landing. The camera was attached to the landing craft.

Lol Bex 123!! His name is Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. Buzz was a knickname he acquired from his sister when he was a little boy.
Alderaan as you mentioned, was the planet where Princess Leia from Star Wars was raised! You were on the right track.

Didn't he take a camera with him? He wasn't the only one of the ship he was just the first one to go onto the moon.
