Neither of us were good with moeny, so the debts far outweigh the assets. All bills are in my name. I've been left with the few assets, the two kids (thank god for that!), but it's hard to make a clean start when you're snowed under. My new partner rightly feels pissed off that she's paying my exes bills. Is there anything i can legally do?

Even if you had got it in the divorce decree for her to pay part of it, all she would have to do is file for bankruptcy, then you would still have to pay for it all. Read the book "Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. He will walk you step by step on how to get out of this mess. It will not be easy, but you will be able to do it.

Are you already divorced? Normally, splitting assets and outstanding bills happens at time of divorce settlement. If you didn't do it then, and agreed to keep all the debt, you're probably stuck with it.

But congratulations on keeping the kids - that's the most important thing. If you bargained away your other rights so you could keep the kids, you probably did the right thing.

Good luck.

I agree with the file bankruptcy if the divorce is not final I know a guy whose wife filed it while they were married he lost everything even though she was filing it for herself because they were married.

Talk to your creditors..explain the situation, work out a palatable payment plan and follow up in writing. Certifed, registered or Fed-ex please. Then make each payment on time. One note of caution: It will be noted on your credit report. SO KEEP YOUR RECORDS. This may help you get financing for a house or car later on. Please e-mail me at amkornele@yahoo.com.

Good Luck!

Before you got married, you could've signed a prenupital agreement. I don't know what you can do now, though. If you sue, you'd spend quite a bit on a lawyer and all.
