Do you mean corporal punishment or capital punishment??
Corporal punishment means hitting someone - what used to happen in schools before it was rightly made illegal.
Capital punishment means killing someone for their crimes, normally murder.
I believe BOTH are wrong.
I think you probably mean Capital punishment. There are many reasons why this is morally wrong. The most important is the possibility of mistakes - people can be released from prison but not brought back to life.
There is also the problem of 'Death Row' as in the USA where a person is under sentence of death but because of appeals and counter-appeals is kept in prison for years, not serving their sentence but in limbo, never knowing when they are going to die, or be released. Is that a way to treat a fellow human being in a civilized society?
You also get a lot more hung juries (where they can't make a decision) when the possible consequence of bringing in a guilty verdict means someone losing their life.
You get the psychological impact on all the people involved in the execution, it can be very traumatic.
NO - we have moved beyond this in the UK. We are more evolved than that.

I think the fact that you've lumped Christians in with murderers and paedophiles shows that you're the weird one. I do, however, agree emphatically that corporal punishment should be reintroduced. Personally I go further in wanting capital punishment brought back also. Give them a choice of method if you want so long as it kills them. The argument about killing the wrong person is a complete cop-out. In most cases there is absolute proof of guilt anyway. And if a mistake is made? Tough but we have got to rid this planet of the evil filth living on it.

If you want somebody dead, even if they have commited horrific crimes, you are just as bad as the murderer yourself.
Why should anybody get to judge who lives and who dies? You cant mess around with life like that - it is too precious. Inocent people all over the world die every day. There is too much death already due to things like starvation and war without increasing it.
It is ridiculous if you are suggesting we can live in peace and harmony by killing each other.

every" person" in the world,is a "murderer",no matter which country we come from,if you "vote or even if you don't" we are all guilty as charged, take off the rose tinted sunglasses.
if you use a car /mobile phone/live in a house/every-time you go to the fridge, someone somewhere dies from our personal actions.
the ones who take it too far, should be placed in stocks, and people should be able to stone them to death,we could make a cottage industry from it,selling burgers/hats/stones,trade would pick up in the high streets of the world/trains and buses, could be lay ed on,have a carnival atmosphere, with bands, and even a lottery for the person who wins, can cast the fatal blow, then the money raised would go to the family of the victims, and you put it nation wide on tv,what a great time yes bring it back,bush/blair and all the scum that support you your stocks await

So you are anti christian the main faith in the UK. I presume you are of another faith. If so what if I said the same in your country? Yes we should bring back deterrents including the death penalty. It may be necessary to rid the country of people like you if we want to live in peace and harmony.

I do agree, even though it will never happen. I've always said, somebody reoffends, kill them. Obviously only for serious crimes. Main reason capital punishment was abolished was because of miscarriages of justice. What are the odds of an innocent man getting convicted of 2 seriosu crimes he didnt do?!!
