I believe this is intentional. Many cars have this to prevent eyestrain from looking at the dashboard while driving at night. There may be a dial or switch of some sort to adjust the brightness of the dashboard lights.

well it could be the dimmer switch if its starting easely then i dont thi nk its bat,or alt. The best thing to do is have both checked at a auto zone or parts place. Next if it never happend befor it might be a bad ground or a drain in the headlights. Electrical problem are best diagnosed by a profesional.. Especially on that car

You didn`t say what warning light it is. It could be something as simple as you ebrake warning light coming on from a loose switch. Tell us what light it is and we can narrow it down Have a look in your owners manual, it may give you an idea as to what that light may mean . Could also mean something as simple as low windshield washer. Yellow is usually a warning lamp , red is a bad color lamp, it means you have a real problem.

Have you adjusted the dimmer switch to your liking? Most people don't want the full lighting when they are driving at night.
