me

"Between" is a preposition and should be followed by the objective case: me.

Because people have been corrected so many times when saying "You and me should..." instead of "You and I should..." they're afraid to pair "me" with another pronoun. But, in this case, "me" is correct.

I would always say "I" because that is what some "proper" schooling would want to teach their kids.... but I personally do not think stuff like that should be too harshly "rammed" into the kid's heads I mean some teachers flip out over a misplaced comma or what have you.... i mean there are "dialects" (sp?) southern or otherwise or even "newbies" transferring into english... I think that WE as a "whole people" need to be more worldly about the whole thing and realize that in most cases we know what the other person is saying, I mean sometimes we don't, and that is why we have to ask questions.... so don't get me wrong it is important to have standards to some extent, but NOBODY likes it when the TEACHERS go TOO FAR.....

"I and me , me and I, how lovely an expression by and by... except for the position of YOU beside me...in such a case there is the love between, one love, peace.." -U2

You wouldn't say between "I" but you would say between "me" The verb must agree to the pronoun. When I looked it up, both are commonly accepted, but grammatically, "me" is more correct in this case than "I."

I agree with Paladin.
proof: objective (which means they function as the recipient of action or are the object of a preposition).
The prepositional phrase is, "between you and me". The object of the preposition is, "me".

Handy trick:

If you could only replace what you are trying to say with "us"--use "me"

If you could only replace what you are trying to say with "we"--use "I"

In your example, you could only use us so you want to use "me".
