I'll have to say I fall into category C thanks to the rising cost of gas, groceries, etc !

A couple of years ago my Wife and I were in your shoes. We have changed our lifestyles to fit our income using these techniques:

A. We bought and still use Tawra Kelly's "Dining on a dime" book which gives basic cooking instructions, organizing instructions for your house, how to make beautiful and cost effective gifts for the holidays.

B. We have started processing our own food. I now buy our meat and other products when on sale and make sausages, bacon, cheese, yogurt, potato chips, bread, ice cream, jellies, peanut butter, B-B-Q rubs, sauces, salad dressings, etc. I can make four meals with one whole chicken for a family of three. When I buy steak for cooking I by a inner-skirt steak, or top round roast and marinade properly and it is great.

C. We go out for dinner only once a month and then very inexpensively.

D. We make our own lunches, we have picnics in the park with our daughter and when we go on vacation we go camping.

E. We quit drinking soda, eating processed snacks, or purchasing things we could make ourselves.

F. I ride a bike or walk to work, barring inclement weather.

G. When we go out on a date for a movie we go to a matinee and the babysitter is free, because we watch their child when they go out.

H. I learned to make my own beer which cost me about $30 for five gallons. The best part is it is better beer than I can buy at the store.

I. We make so much food that we have started selling our homemade products and pull in a tidy profit.

J. We shop at consignment stores for quality used clothes. Sound cheap? It is, I bought my wife a one time worn dress made by Christian Dior for $80, original price was ten times that.

K. We paid off the credit cards and then the Student loans by taking a loan from the bank and saved over $19,000

L. We have saved so much money the last two years we just bought a house, which is cheaper than renting and are taking a four thousand dollar vacation next year to Walt Disney World, which has already been paid for.

M. We spend a lot more quality family time together and have lost weight and lowered our cholesterol.

N. Our next goal is to sell the new house and move to a farm zoned property so we can process our own animals and use wind and solar powered generators, which my Mom did, it is hooked into a dual switch with the electric company, if she needs electricity she takes it, if she has spare she gives it. Every quarter she has recieved a check from the power company in excess of four hundred dollars.

C. My husband is disabled and I'm the only one working supporting him, my daughters and myself. But, I do the best I can.

im still in school and working a minimum wage job to pay for my tuition. but im very hardworking, i'll get there someday.
