He has specific nuances that I enjoy. A lot of people are overly critical of his movies, but I have enjoyed all of them thus far. He, like Tarantino, Atom Egoyan and John Woo, just have these certain elements that make them stand out and individualize their work. I guess most people are disappointed in Lady in the Water, mainly because the advertising suggests a thriller, but I went in knowing from over a year ago that this movie was written and made for his children. I loved Signs while so many have said it was awful, but to me, it was beautifully written with characters charged with emotion, and the four main actors had a dynamic you don't see much. I like him, I'll continue to watch his films with an open mind.

The thing about Night is that he doesnt make movies for the audience. He makes the movies for himself. For example, Lady in the Water. This story is based on a story that he used to tell his little girl. He went to Disney but Disney refused to make the movie because they didnt like it. He didnt give it up but pursued the project through other studios. Everyone agreed that it was not a good movie, yet it was still made for that simple fact that its M. Night Shyamalan and they know he can sell tickets by simple noteriety.
Now dont get me wrong, im not saying this is necessarily a bad thing. Sixth Sense was awesome and despite what others say I enjoyed Unbreakable as well. His style is unique which is a good thing but it can also be a bad thing if people dont embrace it.

The Sixth Sense was great....and Signs wasn't terrible....but the Villiage was the WORST movie I'd ever seen (and I've seen those Barney movies!), and Lady in the Water looks like it's trying too hard to be scary when it's really not.
I predict his movies will just keep getting worse and worse until he's finally shamed out of writing/directing.

He peaked with Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense. SIGNS and The Village were horrid. Sound like Lady in the Water belongs in the gutter or cutting room floor right next to SIGNS and The Village. His license to direct movies should be revoked.

In my time I have viewed a large number of blockbuster re-makes and I must say that none of the new versions live up to their height or manage to "out do" the old version. That was until M. Nigh Shyamalan came along. He does justice to old films he modifies for a new generation. And, in most cases he "out does" the old version.

They require a lot of thought. I really enjoyed The Sixth Sense and Signs...had a hard time with The Village....and am curious about Lady in the Water. I'll have to go see it myself...rest of my family not into that type of genre....oh well.

All his movies suck. Stories are all over the place and illogical. He lucked out in the first one as Haley Joel Osmosis blew everyone away and people therefore thought M. Night was a genius. Nope, it was the kid that made that incomprehensible movies work.
The Nighty needs to hire a proper scriptwriter. I mean, have you watched Signs?

I really liked Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. Have been less enthused about his later work. I think he could make a good film without always having to go for the twist ending. I'd like to see him make something without the gimmick.

i happen to love his movies.
the sixth sense was great and sign was awesome. and i know many people hate the villiage but i enjoyed it.
i think it was trying to portray that not everything you see may be everything thats out there. i think it tries to explain the possibility that we arent alone or there is something much bigger than us...or this...or life on earth.
i just think people who hate the movie missed that concept or tottally deny it all togethor.
my personal opinion though
and i havent seen lady in the water but i want to
