The Chinese character "Tao" is often translated as "nothing" or "the great nothingness". I quote: "For, what-is and what-is-not produce each other" Another example: "Tao is empty but can never be filled up. Fathomless, it seems to be the ancestor of all things". - from the "Tao Te Ching" by Lao Tzu (my Dad's translation). In this context, it's a mysterious, creative force. Out of this eternal nothingness, all life springs. Perhaps your panicked reaction is fear of the unknown. If you feel it wrapping it's "ugly" (a relative term) arms around you, I say hug it back - embrace the Tao! In scientific terms, one theory (according to quantum mechanics) suggests that our whole universe may have sprung from a "quantum flux", meaning that emptiness can be thought of as a vast sea of probability, with our reality being one expression of an infinite number of probabilities. So in this sense, something can spring from nothing. *Whew* that was tiring! *wipes sweat off brow.* I know you weren't expecting a thesis, but maybe this will make you think twice before asking such a mind-bending question!

When things start going the way they sound they are going for you, the only thing to do is brace yourself. Crawl back into bed- slowly. Fold yourself into fetal position. If you can't sleep, then you should turn on some cartoons....BUT ONLY CARTOONS!
Then, you'll just have to wait it out.
Hope this helps.

Experience and explore the feeling. But, remember, that feeling of angst is a small, experimental frequency inside of you. YOU are not a small, insignificant frequency inside of IT. All you have to do when you ever really want that feeling to discontinue is to open your eyes and move on.
