The Ziggurats in Iraq, which are similar to the Tower of Babel are the Physical evidence of its construction. The Ziggurats were built because people thought that they would help them get nearer to heaven. The Ziggurats are something like the Pyramids or the Maya Temples in South America. They are found all over the world and seem to show that people everywhere had a common religious tradition.

The pyramid of Cholula in Mexico has a Tower of Babel-like legend associated with it, but I've also read that the legend was attached AFTER the Spanish infested Mexico with Christianity. But you can google Cholula and read about it. It's so big that the Spanish thought it was a natural hill and built a church on top. I know it holds some kind of record for the biggest man-made structure--not sure if it's tonnage or acreage or what.
