Do you know of any map sites that let you click your own route to measure the distance, i.e. you don’t put in the beginning and ending address but actually click on the map?

Easiest & cheapest way I know is next time you're out getting something in the car, to zero the odometer and then drive the same route you were walking (big assumption that you have roads along your walking route, I know). Its a pretty good estimate.

But bigger question is .... does it matter if it is 2.9 or 3.0 or 3.1 miles? Or are you out there to get the exercise? Just do it till you feel like you got a good workout, or that you spent enough time. Won't that do?

I don't know, but there are pedometers that you can buy for pretty cheap.

It measures the length of your stride, and tell you how far you've walked.

Also, most are easily programmable.
