Typical Dodger trade, A 26 year old, up and coming Shortstop for a 40 year old has been...Heck of a deal for the Cubs!!!

This was a horrible trade. I honestly think the Cubs still have an opportunity at the Wild Card race. Call me crazy, but the series with the Cardinals was the turning point. To get rid of a key player in the rotation was just idiotic. Kerry Wood just announced he won't start next year. Prior is not doing well. Who else do you have? Carlos Zambrano, as wonderful as he is, cannot carry this whole team. They needed Maddux. The reason Greg isn't doing so well is he's got no run support. And who is this Cesar Izturis? So he's been a gold glover. So what? They don't need defense. Their defense is pretty good. Their offense is what needs work. They could have gotten a lot of good players who can hit. They just don't want to pay up. They'd rather pay Wood and Prior to be on the DL all year.

Since I'm from L.A., I wasn't all that surprise that the Dodgers got Greg Maddux but how they got Maddux was a little bit surprising. I thought it would be a couple of prospects for him but for Cesar Izturis alone was a little bit shocking because I thought that the Cubs would want more. Izturis days as a Dodgers was over before it got started and with a crowded infield of Furcal, Betemit, Kent, Garciaparra, and now Julio Lugo, Izturis didn't have anywhere to play, so I wasn't surprise that Izturis is gone, but his defense will be sorely missed. Playing in a "notorious" pitchers park and near his home in Newport Beach could help Maddux stats for the final two months (just look what happen to Garciaparra before his latest DL stint). At least reducing it to a mid-3 ERA and double digit win isn't that far for Maddux and I think he should help a questionable rotation that hasn't been healthy for sometimes, being an ideal 3rd starter. Can't wait for his Dodger debut.

Julio Lugo for a couple of prospects (Joel Guzman and Sergio Pedroza) just came out of nowhere for the Dodgers, as they wern't expect to get the SS, since they already have a crowded infield. However, the infield has been depleted of injuries, so now I can see how Lugo fits into the Dodger plan. He's likely going to replace Lofton and bat 2nd in the lineup (playing 2nd base), behind Furcal. The Dodgers now have speed to burn in the top of the lineup and an emergency leadoff man whenever Furcal get some rest (no offense to Lofton). If the infield is healthy, Lugo playing time might be in question because Wilson Betemit is the full-time 3B, Furcal at SS, Kent in 2B (if healthy), and Garciaparra at 1B (although he might shift to LF in order to keep Lugo in the lineup and have Kent play 1B, in which would be a likely scenario if this happens). Either way, I'm happy for both trades and I hope that the Dodgers can make a run at the playoffs.

This is the first I'm hearing of it....Thanks.

I figured the Dodger's had a shot at Maddux because he wants to be near his home in Vegas...I wouldn't be surprised if a coaching job with the 51s is part of the deal.

He's a Hall-of-Famer and a warrior and I think the rotation is stronger now...My only worry is that he's no longer an innings eater. This addition will mean extra work for guys like Carrarra and Tomko.

As for Ceasar, I'll miss him. He was a defensive artist and a classy guy for never openly griping about losing his position. He also put a lot of work into becoming a better hitter. I wish him the best.

Cubs will benifit long term if Ceaser can hit well enough to stay in the bigs. Maddux will prob find another good year or two out in LA as it's a pitchers park there. With the Cubs he was probably in his last year so this gives Maddux a possible chance to pitch another year or two.

The big question for the Cubs is that while Maddux was not having a great year he did eat up innings and keep them in the game. Who are they going to replace him with?

The cubs suck...they just do. I have given them 35 years and they have given me nothing back. It is not the team I hate, it is the Tribune. The Maddux trade doesn't mean anything other than dumping his salary which is typical Tribune bottom line management. Yes, Ozzie did it on the Southside, but that isn't the norm. You need to spend money to be competitive year after year. Money they have. Then you need luck to get through the playoffs. The more times you make the playoffs, the more likely you are to get lucky.

Attention all Cubs fans, stop going to games, stop buying merchandise, stop watching WGN. Make them sell the damn thing, so an individual who cares can buy it. We should be competing with the Yankees and Red Sox annually, not Pittsburgh and Milwaukee. Instead, we give them 3+ Million through the gate and get a .400 team in return. They will move out Dusty Baker who is as competent a manager as will come to Chicago. These guys can buy and field a competitive team year in and year out but choose not to for the bottom line.

My grandfather was born and died without seeing a World Series and so will I and my son as well which is why I am considering to raise as a Cardinal fan.

Maddux is washed up, Izturis isn't that good to begin with. Sounds like both sides are just dumping players they really don't want anymore.
