not just possible but a requirement .With one addition which might reverse idea entirely. I see you as an idea of me, which is you now. Idea in that sense is instant impulse cannot be grasped by slow mentality but can be sustained with love and kindness. Respect to my own self, which represents form of love, will be transfered and felt by YOU.
There is no such a thing as essence of another...essence all the same, it is God...If you are able to see an essence of "another" you'll see your own Godliness reflected bak to you. Another will see the same from his/her perspective, and that is one of a kind experience...you may never forget....

The heart can indeed sometimes see what the mind doesn't see but it only gives us vague impressions instead of clear pictures.
I think its true that when we meet someone what we see most is what we want to see in that person.
The real other person can slowly emerge or we can continue letting our preconceptions run the show it all depends on how open our mind is and how good the other person is at communication. It is possible to communicate the 'real' us but it is difficult because even we don't know our own true selves and it is changing all the time.

Perhaps you don't realize that this question can be generalized - asked about anything, even about yourself.
When you look 'inside' yourself, is what you see you or just your idea of you? Do you really know yourself?
Socrates and Plato thought philosophy was all about getting to know yourself. They thought you cannot know others or the world until you know yourself, because those knowledges are all ultimately the same knowledge.
This is why some people loved but others hated Socrates - he made it his business to show others that they didn't know what they claimed to know and thought they knew and so didn't know themselves either.
If your question is, when we look at others can we see how they see themselves, then the answer has to be - only partly. For example, if someone gives the appearance of having a very high opinion of themself, we can usually see that. But, in fact they might be very insecure and just putting on a brave face, both for you and for themself.

I feel the minds eye can see things that the human eye can't. You can tell a lot about a person by the conversation that they have with you. Listen closely and a person will always give hints on the kind of person they really are ( silly, serious, racist, disgruntle, nurturing, and so on). You just have to look further than the outside to see the truth sometimes.

I think that's a really sharp question. And the answer is another question (oh why is it so often like that?).
If you didn't have anyone else to confirm you, would have any personality or essence?
So what I'm suggesting is when we look at others we see them filtered by ourselves... and the odd converse. We wouldn't exist in any deep way without the confirmation of others...

i think so because when i see some one i know like a friend or something i dont c eyes, ears and i nose....i see thoughts ideas and memories. Of course i physically see their face but that is not what transfers to my mind. I see the facial features of strangers and dont think much about it and just walk on by. But for example, when i see my friends i think "what did we do together last time?" "what will we do today" "what was that joke i wanted to tell her?" "i wonder what she did today" etc. thats what makes friends and family so good....not just the fact that u could spot em and know who they are in a crowd, but that you share and create memories that become stronger and relived everytime you see them.

I really don't know. I was talking with a guy on the phone and thought he was short, fat and ugly. He turned out to be tall, really cute and nice. Sometimes the way we see people is all in our imagination.
