I am checking i'm correct in thinking that I learnt it was 300000000 meters per sec.Thanks.

The "actual" speed of light is 186,300 mph...so if the speed of light was squared, it would travel at 372,600 mph...so your equation is nearly correct. The only reason I know this at all is because I live at the Lowell Observatory and study the Universe and our own Milky Way Galaxy through the worlds greatest land-based telescopes...along with a link to the now "up-and-running" Hubble Telescope. "Light", and the relation of light and light spectrum concerning the heat and elements which are in any given star(s) under study, is the chief study of the heavens. Light is "everything" in the study of the Galaxies and the Universe.

Yes its about 300,000 kilometers per second, which of course is 300,000,000 metres per second.

If you square it, it is an enormous figure - which is why there is so much energy to be produced from a relatively small mass with atomic power, and why nuclear bombs are so destructive, and why the sun and the stars can shine for billions of years.
