When the Bush's bought the 2.5 square mile (1580 acres) Prairie Chapel Ranch, there was an active cattle herd of about 300 head of cattle. The previous owner still leases pasture there, although not nearly that many head anymore -- last I heard there was about 50 or so. (The Bush's are trying to restore the pasturelands back to native grasses.) The Bush's only own about 5 head, all Texas Longhorns.

It's not a big ranch by Texas standards, but it's stil a ranch.

because it is a ranch. It has livestock and the means to support that livestock. It has a lot of brush, timber and ravines, also water to support the cattle. What do you think it is. a lush green oasis?. I have been to Crawford TX and seen the area (I was about 3 miles from the ranch) Have you ever been to the area? I guess anyones home could be an estate if you wanted it to be. How are things on your estate (or do you live in an apt)

I don't think it's a working ranch (that is, that it has cattle or other livestock), but it's a large piece of property that isn't the traditional model of an estate. Therefore, a ranch is the best-fit term.

Man, you liberal Bush haters will stop at nothing? It is a ranch, it has cattle, a barn, etc..and he does the work when he is there. (Remember the whole cutting brush news clip..)
The Maine property owned by his father is an estate....

But, please get over it already! He is in office for a little bit longer....in 2008 when McCain gets elected, you will have another President to complain about. Bush bashing is getting so old!!

Cause it feeds into the false image of Bush that they helped to create. He doesn't even ride a horse. In Texas thye call it "Big Hat, No Cattle".

You don't see too many cattle grazing on an estate.
