Just to set the record straight, Jesus was faced with the same problems of high taxes and high everything else under the Kingdom of Herod. The Kingdom of Heaven was to be on the earth to replace the Kingdom of Herod. You could say things have not changed very much in 2000 years. There has been war in that area from then until now. We are all still slaves! If we could get people to drive 55 the gas saved would change the face of the world. We must stop using gas ... water can be used as fuel, but that would upset the balance of power. Sorry! We are all sick of the government taking everything they can.

I am. Everything we buy these days is taxed, it's disgusting. I would estimate we pay as much as 40% of our gross earnings on one form of tax or another. Councils are even taxing people who are moving to new properties and haven't yet sold their old property, why? We're not using double the waste collections, more street lighting, extra policing or anything more than we would if we only had the one property.

Yes I am sick of it, but what can we do???? We work hard and pay our taxes for what??? so we can keep a load of immigrants on the dole and give them housing. That's where your money is going...Keeping people who don't work and who just sit on their arses all day doing nothing.
Nick you can't have it both ways....supporting immigrants and saying how they should be allowed to live here and then saying your sick of all the taxes you pay.

would you prefer to pay ridiculous rates for healthcare aswell? have rough roads to drive on and pay for schooling, costing thousands of pounds a time! at least this way when we need help we get what we pay into. maybe taxes would be less if we all decided to get rid of our waste ourselves, and not just into the neighbours back garden. yes there is some overspending on management but otherwise we in the uk have it pretty easy.

i'm probably in the minority and i don't work for the government in any facet, but I actually cannot believe all the services we get for the amount of taxes we pay. just think about what you actually get. most of it is completely free and only a bit requires us to subsidise over our taxes (like the pitance we pay for prescriptions)
nursery and school up to the age of 16
free emergency health care
free long term health care
free dentist care up to 16 and then hugely subsidised care (albeit with a waiting list)
police services
fire services
army, navy and airforce
county council services (street cleaning, littering, hedge cutting, upkeep of parks and lakes etc)
road upkeep and traffic organisation
benefits for children, and those on low income
support for those who are unable to work through no fault of their own - sickness, disability, redundancy
council facilities (gyms and sports centres and swimming pools)
free advice services (debt support, citizens advice, advocacy services
some sort of pension (though I know this isn't great)
ok so granted, we pay a lot but in reality, we have a lot to be thankful for. lets face it, i'd rather pay my taxes and know that I live in a safe country that will support me if I need it and that has a bloody fantastic free health service, than in one like in the third world where yes, you pay no taxes but you get f*** all free too and you and your family starve if you lose you job.
I think we should pay taxes for luxuries like cars (although I agree that there should be better alternatives for transport). I think we should have to pay to go to Uni as lets face it it is subsidised hugely for us already and what we pay is nothing to what it actually costs. (and by the way I did pay my way through uni and have a loan to pay back).
anyway, just be grateful that you live in a country where only some of your taxes go on the military and where your government (in the main - except for a few blunders like the Gulf wars and Afganistan) prefers to preserve the lives of humans over mass genocide.
I remember someone from Africa said to me once. 'the best gift you British will ever be given is your nationality and passport' and I couldn't agree more

Not sick of them takng it, just the way they spend it.
You only have to look around and it's easy to see that people who don't work are just as well, if not better, off than those that do.
The UK seems to have this idea that the working people will continue to work all the hours under the sun to provide for the rest. I wonder how the country will survive once all the skilled labour and educated workers move overseas, where the work they provide is more appreciated.

"In 2003, total federal state and local taxes in the United States were 24.2% of our gross domestic product, ranking among the lowest in the world, with only Mexico at 19.5% with a lower tax rate."
The reason we are having pay tolls on roads taxpayers already own is because our taxes are too low to finance them.

I'm not so much unhappy with them taking it as I am with them wasting it. While I would like to hold on to more of my money, as long as it was used properly I could accept it being taken more. But they don't fix roads, they have police hounding me all the time for no other reason then my car is just a "bit too nice for the Mexican," they spend it all arguing over useless things like gay marriage (let them have it or don't, just quit wasting money arguing over it), and so on.

its no wonder why lots of people are moving abroad, living in this country is just a rip off. They make quite a bit of money off us smokers and now they wanna try and stop everyone from smoking... where will this money come from if nobody smoked? are they gonna tax us for breathing air next???
