I found this about 10 years ago in a old cemetery that was being moved. and have looked ever where trying to find the author of it.

Read this as you pass by;
As you are now so once was I;
As I am so you must be;
Prepare for death and follow me.

I read about this in an art course. It is called a memento mori. It was a saying on a tomb inscribed by an italian artist. Wish I knew more.

As I am "now" so you must be.

I have seen this often with minor variations in cemetaries and don't know its origin The earliest appearance that I've seen is the mid to late 1800's.

On one stone was added:

"To follow you I'm not content,
Until I know which way you went".
