There is Judaic significance to the laying of palm fronds at Jesus' feet.

They also called out "Hosana! Hosana!" which means, "Save us" and they did these things A) because it was prophesied about 400 years or so before Jesus' birth that the Messiah would enter the gates of Jerusalem on a donkey -- the Kings of Israel rode donkeys, not horses, because horses came from Egypt -- and the people who were there recognized the prophesy being fulfilled in front of their eyes, recognized that He was the Messiah and paid tribute to Him as the promised Messiah.

Now I will have to look up the Judaic significance of the Palm Fronds, because before your question, I didn't know that I didn't remember.

Have you ever walked in sandals through dirt, sand and mud? Your feet get covered in it, even with the sandals.

Laying down palm leaves was the ancient equivalent of laying down the red carpet. It was a gesture of respect.

It had nothing to do with laziness, it was a way of honoring him. Making a way for him to walk without dirtying his feet, and it was only a symbolic gesture to show their love for him.

i doubt his sandals were as nice as ours, maybe they had holes. also, they didnt just lay them down for him, they also shaded his entrance and fanned him. its hot out in the desert. they might have laid down the palms so the hot sand wouldnt hurt his feet. all out respect for the guy basically.
