Human Beings and Human Shields......whats the difference?

Its like saying that since civilians live on a military base the US is using them as " human shields "........why can't we just acknowledge them as human beings and assign the blame for their death on those who shot or bombed them? Is that too simple?

Human shields are deliberately held back by hostile forces to deter attacks against those forces. These people would prefer to leave, but are not given that option by the enemy who is hiding behind them.

Civilians serving on US military bases are there voluntarily, not held by force as a deterrent against attack.

I assume you are referring to the Israeli military trying to portion off some of the blame for the Innocent civilian casualties
(that are getting in the way of "a good bombing campaign") on Hezbollah by way of them asserting that this is due to them using civilians as human shields.

This is nonsense as Hezbollah could only do this effectively if their opponents (Israel) distinguished between civilians and combatants.
Don't get me wrong however I have distain in equal measure for both parties. But it is particularly heinous to see a supposedly civilized country attempt to paint them selves as the good guys when in fact being the more powerful of the 2 should also carry the requisite burden of the responsibility that comes with power.
IE A country with a modern army should not be stooping to the same level as the animals they are trying to stop.

People have a choice about living on a military base or finding other housing. Base housing is normally on the opposite side of the base from possible military targets. Do you think it is moral for someone to shoot at police while holding a small child?
