Not only Brazilian players, but also players from all Portuguese-speaking countries, use "war names" instead of simply the name. Many time the war name is the first name, or the last name, or both. Sometimes its a nickname. It's a tradition. In Portuguese-speaking countries people call each other by the first name more.

You r such an idiot its not even funny first of all he's Brazilian, and Ronaldo has an o at the end and even if his name was Ronald it would not be pronounced the same as Ronald McDonald.

no he was named after donald duck but as he has such big teeth he cant say "d" it comes out as an "r". at the end of everything he says there is also a slight whistle like the cartoon beaver so to disguise this he pushes an "o" at the end of his name, in fact at the end of everything he says so most people have taken his name as ronaldo, hope this helps!
