proactiv didnt work for me, i think it was too harsh, and it definately dried out my face.

instead, i suggest clean and clear daily pore cleanser. it's really gently and exfoliates without overdrying.

remember not to pick at your face and be sure to wear sunscreen when outside.

moisturizer is a wonderful thing as well. but be sure to get one for your face instead on your body. dove, olay, and aveeno are good brands for this.

Good Luck!

I use Nutrogena's Acne Treatment System - just stay away from the night serum . . . The wash is a combination of a scrub and cream! I love it! it exfoliates, but not to the point of irritation. I can use it daily without over drying, and if I stop using it, I don't break out right away like so many others that I have tried. The daytime cream/sunblock is also great! It's a light moisturizer that doesn't leave me oily. The night time serum/cream honestly made my break outs worse. I don't know what it was with the stuff, but it was just better off in the garbage than my face. If I am breaking out or don't use the cleanser, they have blemish pads that work well too! My skin is a mess when I am stressed, and these are the only products that seem to work for me!

omg. Proactiv is the worst! I have acne prone skin and used it for more a little more than a year. Once you go off it, acne gets 100X worse! I got acne in places I never broke out before and it's not just me -- there are tons of ex-proactiv users out there who would agree.

The main ingredient in the Proactiv System is Benzoyl Peroxide. If you do some research on it, you'll find that Benzoyl Peroxide generates free radicals (oxygen --> it's actually what kills the acne causing bacteria since they can't live in an oxygen-rich environment) and free radicals contribute to premature aging. Also, it makes the skin more sensitive to the sun and thus again, even more premature aging. But I mean, some know this and continue to use it so it's all up to you. And it worsens the skin by drying it out -- severely. I can't recommend anything though 'cause everyone's skin is different and acne is so difficult to treat. But anyway, just giving you a warning about Proactiv.

If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

Aveno foaming cleanser is awsome. ( in the pump thing) Also watch your diet! Eat lots of fish, yogurt, fruit, veggies and eggs for the next week. (I mean a lot) Your skin will start looking better over night. If possible get a good multi vitamin and some fish oil tablets. Good skin comes from the inside.

i don't like proactive either. get loreal acne regimen, it says for adults but it dont really matter im only 16 and i use it..i used proactive and its definatly better and cheaper. it makes your old skin peal but its a good thing cause it gets all the dead skin off, and you'll see results overnight..well i did..its worth a try..goodluck
